RICH IN HISTORY & BUILT FOR THE FUTURE

Award-Winning Ranchers and Land Stewards

Land stewardship is in our family's DNA.  Since purchasing the ranch in 1989, we’ve worked to remove large amounts of trash (left by previous owners), as well as dozens of acres of gorse (an invasive, non-native species) from our property.  In 2009, we received a Recognition Award for our land stewardship efforts from Marin County, the US. Department of Agriculture, and California Fish & Game.  We are currently working with the Marin Resource Conservation District on a large-scale floodplain restoration project to increase fishing populations in Walker Creek.  Through it all, Saddle Rack Ranch has remained a working, sustainable cattle ranch, expanding into produce with farm-to-table fruits and vegetables.

Agriculture is Evolving - Out of Necessity

Across America, family farms and ranches are dying.  According to the USDA in 2022, the number of farms in California dropped by nearly 30% in the previous 25 years, and more than 50% of farms in 2022 either made zero or negative profit.  The average rancher is in his or her sixties, with a next of kin unable (or unwilling) to work long hours for little to no pay, especially amidst increasing costs and diminishing resources.  For us, inevitability brings clarity.  Evolving is not an option, and in so many ways, that knowledge is freeing.  As Tim McGraw says, "Some day I hope you get the chance to live like you were dyin'."

Dreaming Big for the Next Generation

So raise a glass, breathe in the ocean air, dance in the moonlight, crow at the sunrise, and get mud on your boots!  Support your local farms and ranches, and the many businesses doing the same!  "We may not be around in 20 years, but they're sure gonna know we were here!" - Jason Aldean
